Days 22-24 Trip Destination Unknown (Port Augusta - Alice Springs: Barngala - Arrente Countries) 26/5/2022

 Day 22: The next few days are going to be long road trips as we head up to Darwin. Not much time for sightseeing in this part of the trip.  Today's destination was a little bush camp about 50km north of Coober Pedy. What I remember as a pretty tedious drive was rather beautiful.  After all the rains, the desert is green and perhaps being in the car with children towards the end of a journey didn't help in the past!  Quite a number of the salt lakes had water in them including Lake Hart.     The new Ghan Railway basically follows the Stuart Highway up to Alice Springs, criss-crossing the road a few times. While we didn't see the Ghan itself, we did see a couple of goods trains using the track.  Fixing it after the rains earlier in the year must have been a huge task. Days 19-21 of Trip Destination Unknown (Yunta - Mt Remarkable NP - Port Augusta: Ngadjuri - Nukunu - Barngala countries) 23/5/2022

 Day 19: Our intention was to head to Arkaroola in the Gammon Ranges but many roads around there are still closed due to rain so we headed west again. Stopped for a while in Peterborough, a fascinating railway town and well worth a visit. There was an excellent history of the town in an old railway carriage and after reading that we headed off to walk the sights.  Originally called Peterburg, this was one of the many places in South Australian in which names were changed to make them less German during the wars. This is acknowledged in the history and on a number of signs.       As is often the case in these old country towns, there were many of the old buildings and of course, the requisite number of hotels (in Peterborough's case 4 - could have been 6 but for the moderation of Methodists!)
